Mygale ionica x3

A work commissioned by 'The Parasite': a vitrine space grafted on to the side of the Royal College of Art, Battersea, London. The space available to viewed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The work 'Mygale ionica x3' references the space's vitrine form, and presents three varied facsimiles of an artefact within the collection of the Horniman Museum, Forest Hill, London. The specific item is a diorama of the burrow of a Trap Door Spider. Just as the spider creates a hide to capture its prey, the work's intial obscurity aims to ensnare a passerby into an encouter on the street.

Artist, B. Swindon, UK, 1988. Lives and works in London.
